De koelingsoplossing die op tafel ligt (bewust niet vertaald vanuit het Engels): “A heatsink is disposed on a lower surface of a circuit board. The circuit board has through holes that penetrate the circuit board in an area where an integrated circuit apparatus is disposed. Heat conduction paths are provided in the through holes. The heat conduction paths connect the integrated circuit apparatus and the heatsink. This structure allows for disposition of a component different from the heatsink on the same side as the integrated circuit apparatus, thus ensuring a higher degree of freedom in a component layout.”
De System Lead Architect van de PlayStation 5, Mark Cerny, liet in z'n presentatie enkele weken terug al weten dat de console een redelijk unieke opbouw zou hebben die voorkomt dat het toestel ooit als een haardroger of opstijgend vliegtuig zou klinken. In een interview met YouTube-kanaal Digital Foundry gaf hij ook nog mee dat de koelingsoplossing deel uitmaakt van een uiteenzetting van de console in de nabije toekomst.
