Jup, South by Southwest (SXSW) is het zoveelste evenement dat lijdt onder de Corona-epidemie die de wereld in haar greep houdt. Dit is ook voor ons, gamers, een spijtige zaak, want onder andere Sonic The Hedgehog en Minecraft kregen een dedicated panel.
De annulatie komt doordat de stad Austin, waar SXSW jaarlijks plaatvindt, het evenement liever niet ziet doorgaan.
"As recently as Wednesday, Austin Public Health stated that “there’s no evidence that closing SXSW or any other gatherings will make the community safer.” However, this situation evolved rapidly, and we honor and respect the City of Austin’s decision. We are committed to do our part to help protect our staff, attendees, and fellow Austinites." Aldus het officiële statement van SXSW.
De organisatoren bekijken de opties om het evenement op te schuiven naar een andere datum, en om een digitaal alternatief te voorzien.
