    Nieuwste telg onder de Bethesda-vlag kennen we dankzij Game Informer-special nu ook wat beter onder de naam Dishonored, een volledig nieuwe IP!

    Naast RPG's hebben stealthgames van het zuivere soort sowieso mijn aandacht. Niet moeilijk dat ik het dus behoorlijk warm krijg van deze uitleg:

    Dishonored is the antithesis of a edge-of-your-seat roller-coaster ride. It's a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone. It's a game about infiltration where you can set up traps and slaughter the entire garrison of an aristocrat's mansion rather than sneak in. It's a game about brutal violence where you can slip in and out of a fortified barracks with nobody ever knowing you were there. It's a game about morality and player choice where the world you create is based on your actions, not navigating conversation trees.

    De maandagupdate bij GI van Dishonored is binnen:

    Corvo als karakternaam klinkt me wat raar in de oren, eerder wat vloekachtig, maar daar gaan we niet over struikelen. Denk dat dit verder het meest interessante stukje is:
    It’s an assassination game that reacts to how violent you are. An unusual “chaos” system tracks how much collateral damage you cause, and the game world changes as a result of your actions. Unlike a light/dark side meter, though, it’s a behind-the-scenes element that affects story decisions without punishing the player or pushing them to play one way or another.

    Nieuwe update op de hub, deze keer gaan ze wat meer in detail over de wereld van Dishonored met een interactieve wereldkaart:

    Dit klinkt toch maar erg raar:

    The world’s calendar has an interesting feature. After 13 months of 28 days, there is always some indeterminate amount of time left over before the astrological clock resets. The High Overseer of the Abbey of the Everyman (the religion of the world) dictates what this amount of time will be, and so begins the Fugue Feast. This becomes a period of sanctioned free anarchy. Existing “out of time,” the people can do what they want without consequences. Kill a rival. Sleep with a stranger’s wife. Do unspeakable things. Anything is allowed during the Fugue Feast.

    Raar, maar wel interessant imo. Wat als je heel even vrij van de wet kon leven? Welke gevolgen zou het hebben voor uw relaties, wat zou je doen,....

    Het biedt mogelijkheden, zeker als die anarchieperiode ook geldig is voor de rest van de spelwereld? Kan zwaar tegen je gebruikt worden als je iets te opdringerig bent geweest. Ben nieuwsgierig maar toch ergens wel een -gevoel.

    Ik zie dat eerder als een moment in de game waar als ge echt evil speelt er een hele massa wraakactie's tegen u ventje gepland gaan worden

    Stukje uit de update geplukt dat mijn aandacht getrokken heeft:
    The encounter – a large room filled with guards – could be tackled from dozens of angles. We asked the developers to show us the short demo encounter repeatedly, and we ended up watching over 30 unique approaches to the battle – some of which skipped the battle altogether.

    The world is a mix of old-fashioned and futuristic elements. A simple pistol, for instance, bears an antiquated, matchlock look, but a band of blue energy ripples along the barrel. City streets bear similarities to a London of a past age, but streets are separated with gates of rippling energy and security turrets that sweep areas of importance with floodlights.
    Oude setting en dan kom je deze tegen? Is inderdaad toch wat raar en even wennen.
