how come developers don't make Historic FPS's?
I don't understand this, by historic i mean napoleonic war and earlier. I mean, surely you could base a good FPS around that, it might be a bit of an FPSM (first person shooter/melee) but i personally think fighting the french with muskets, baker rifles and swords would make for a damn good game. Can have artillery crew's, mortar's, hell you could make a battlefield game based around it, no planes of course, but you could have frigates and galleons for sea warfare and all sorts, there's so much that could be done, and i don't understand why no game developer has tapped into that market. I can see the problems with the fact a musket could only fire about 3 rounds a minute with a well trained man, and the fact that melee combat with swords could be quite a hard thing to implement in a good way, but game developers these days can work around these kinds of problems. Noone's ever attempted it seriously before, and it opens up an entire new area to what is becoming in my opinion a rather stale genre, there's only so much more they can do in regards to world war two and modern day FPS, the future offer's more scope, but thats been done to death, why not take a stab (no pun intended) at the past?

Those musket where highly inacuarate weapons when you compare them to the current rifles. I don't think it would be much fun to all stand in line take a shot notice that the lead ball you shoot drops a lot. Oh and than the exiting 3 minute reload. Cleaning out the barrel. Filling the musket with gunpowder. Pushing it to the back. Dropping in a lead ball. Pushing that one in to. Lighing the fuse and bang it explodes in your face. Hmmm

I agree that it wouldn't be really an exciting game , maybe it would if they make it unrealistic ... ?

He talked about a FPS to have a shootergame you need a weapon that shoots.
The first shooting weapon that did not require musclepower to be used was a musket. Although and age of empire age of kings in first person would rock imho.
