Hello Ladies (HBO) - Seizoen 1

Hello Ladies stars the 6 foot-7 Stephen Merchant (The Office, Extras, Life's Too Short, The Ricky Gervais Show) as a gawky Englishman searching for the woman of his dreams in Los Angeles. Half as charming as he thinks he is — and twice as desperate — he’s obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous world of beautiful people. Unfortunately the beautiful people won’t let him in.

Geweldig, gewoon al omdat Merchant mijn "brother from another mother" is.

I thought this was a much better episode than last. That might be due to a familiarity with the characters, but overall I enjoyed it upon reflection at the end.
That said, there was some really un-encouraging moments in this episode. While I think it has been unveiled that Steve is a jerk and an asshole, and the show is aware of that (e.g. it's not some mental masturbation of Merchant's, which I didn't expect, but was discouraged by the first episode), I do think its portrayal of women is rather offensive. I know there are people out there who might conform to this stereotype, but every single one of his female roommate's friends were SO predictably 1 dimensional that it made those scenes boring and uninspired. I really hope this isn't a reoccurring theme; but I'm afraid it will be.
I also think it's way too blatantly obvious where this whole season is going. Right? Steve tries and tries again with each episode bringing another awkward failure/learning lesson, until he and his roommate finally hook-up because they realize they're the perfect fit for each other.
I hope it's not this predictable, and I love the Merch and have faith in him. I think he's one of the wittiest writers out there, and his comments in the XFM radio shows are always the sly subtle ones that get me laughing. I think the reveal that the show is a least a little self aware is encouraging.
Let's see where it goes from here.
